Mr Beautiful Officially Joins Creative Arts Agency Board in Ghana

Ghanaian actor Clement Bonney, widely known in the entertainment world as Mr Beautiful, has been officially appointed to the governing board of Ghana’s Creative Arts Agency. The announcement, made public through a social media post on August 5, introduced the new board members who are expected to play a vital role in shaping the future of Ghana’s creative industry.

Mr Beautiful, a household name in Ghana’s film scene, gained prominence in the early 2000s through his roles in numerous local-language comedies and Kumawood productions. Known for his infectious humor, expressive acting style, and unapologetically bold personality, he quickly became one of the most recognizable faces in Ghanaian cinema. His contributions to the industry, particularly in the promotion of indigenous storytelling and comedic acting, have earned him both admiration and controversy over the years.

Beyond his acting career, Mr Beautiful is also well known for his strong political stance. A vocal supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President John Dramani Mahama, his political affiliation has often stirred debates in the entertainment community, especially after he claimed that his support for the NDC affected his visibility in Kumawood movies. Despite the controversies, he has remained active and passionate about using his platform to promote Ghanaian culture and the creative arts.

The ceremony was also graced by the Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, signaling the government’s commitment to revitalizing the sector.

The Creative Arts Agency was established by an Act of Parliament, the Creative Arts Industry Act, 2020 (Act 1048), to provide the institutional structure needed to develop, regulate, and manage the creative sector in Ghana. From film and music to fashion, poetry, dance, and visual arts, the board’s mandate is to push for policies, programs, and partnerships that support creative professionals and ensure sustainability across the industry.

Mr Beautiful’s appointment brings not just star power but also lived experience and a deep connection to grassroots creativity. His journey from the streets of Kumasi to the national stage is a testament to the potential within Ghana’s creative landscape, potential the new board is now tasked with nurturing.
