Buckingham Palace Denies Prince Harry Accommodation Amid London Visit

A fresh disagreement has emerged between Buckingham Palace and Prince Harry’s team over accommodation arrangements during the Duke of Sussex’s latest visit to the United Kingdom, highlighting the continuing tensions between the royal household and the Sussexes.

Buckingham Palace has stated that Prince Harry will not be staying at a royal residence during his visit to London this week, despite an earlier announcement from the Duke’s representatives claiming he had accepted an invitation to stay at the palace. According to royal sources, the Duke failed to respond within the required timeframe to the accommodation offer. Palace officials explained that after receiving no timely confirmation, they considered the invitation declined and informed Prince Harry on Saturday evening that accommodation at a royal residence would no longer be available.

However, Prince Harry’s spokesperson has disputed the Palace’s account, insisting that the Duke had formally accepted the invitation and that the offer was unexpectedly withdrawn at the last minute. The spokesperson described the decision as “disappointing” and questioned why the Palace could not accommodate the Duke for what was reportedly a single night’s stay.

The conflicting accounts have created a difficult start to Prince Harry’s week-long visit to Britain, where he is scheduled to attend several charity engagements and promote the 2027 Invictus Games, which will be hosted in Birmingham. The disagreement has also exposed the deep communication breakdown and ongoing mistrust between Buckingham Palace and the Sussex camp, with both sides publicly presenting contradictory versions of events.

Adding further complexity to the situation, palace sources indicated there were concerns about the timing of the Duke’s stay because a major court ruling relating to his legal case against Associated Newspapers was due to be delivered during the visit. Officials reportedly believed it would be inappropriate for Prince Harry to respond publicly to a sensitive legal judgment while staying at a royal residence, as it could compromise King Charles’ constitutional neutrality.

Prince Harry’s representatives rejected that explanation, arguing that the timing of the court ruling had been publicly known well in advance and therefore should not have influenced the accommodation decision. They maintained that the Palace had withdrawn an accepted invitation without a clear justification.

The dispute has also raised fresh questions about the possibility of a meeting between Prince Harry and his father, King Charles, during the visit. Although such a meeting had been widely anticipated, the latest disagreement could further complicate any plans for a family reunion.

Despite the controversy, Prince Harry is expected to proceed with his scheduled engagements across the UK. His visit will focus primarily on promoting the Invictus Games, the international sporting competition he founded for wounded, injured and sick military personnel. During his time in Birmingham, the Duke is expected to visit the National Exhibition Centre, which will host the Games, as well as Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

His wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are not accompanying him to London after security concerns prevented the family from travelling together. Reports suggest they could still join him later in the week for events in Birmingham, although no official confirmation has been provided.

Prince Harry’s ongoing dispute over security arrangements in the UK remains unresolved. Since stepping back as a senior working royal in 2020 and relocating to the United States, the Duke has challenged the British government’s decision to provide him with security on a case-by-case basis rather than full police protection. He has repeatedly argued that the current arrangements are insufficient for his family and previously stated he could not safely bring Meghan and their children back to Britain under the existing security framework.

The latest disagreement over accommodation adds another chapter to the strained relationship between Prince Harry and the Royal Family, with public exchanges from both Buckingham Palace and the Duke’s representatives underscoring the continuing divisions between the two sides.
