UDS Student Sentenced to Death for Murder of Fellow Student Over Love Rivalry
Salifu Nurudeen, a Computer Science student at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala campus, has been sentenced to death by the Tamale High Court for the murder of his colleague, Wumpini Mohammed Zakiu.
The tragic incident, which occurred in September last year, was reportedly fueled by a love triangle. Nurudeen’s girlfriend, also a UDS student, had ended their relationship and started dating Wumpini.
On September 25, Wumpini was discovered dead with multiple stab wounds, and his mobile phone was missing. Investigations by the police cybercrime unit led to a breakthrough when the missing phone was traced to Nurudeen’s room, hidden beneath his bed.
Further evidence showed that Nurudeen had used Wumpini’s phone to send misleading messages one to the girlfriend posing as a breakup, and another to a friend of the victim.
Police arrested Nurudeen at Jubilee Park after luring him to the location. While he admitted to sending the messages, he denied involvement in the murder.
