A Traditional Leader with a Modern Mindset

Togbe Afede XIV, born James Akpo, was enstooled as the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State in October 2003. From the onset, he demonstrated that his rule would not be business as usual. He was determined to make chieftaincy relevant to the 21st century, focusing not just on culture and customs, but also on development, youth empowerment, and economic transformation.

Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Ltd., a key player in Ghana’s energy sector, providing much-needed power to support national growth.

Strategic Initiatives Ltd., a company involved in diverse sectors including real estate and investment.

Through these ventures, Togbe has created jobs, supported local industries, and helped build Ghana’s infrastructure.

Togbe Afede’s influence stretches far beyond the Volta Region. He served as the President of the National House of Chiefs from 2016 to 2020, where he advocated for stronger collaboration between traditional leaders and national institutions.

His time as President of the House of Chiefs strengthened the relevance of chieftaincy in Ghana’s democratic process.

A Champion of Integrity and Independent Thought

Togbe Afede XIV is widely known for his principled stands. He has spoken openly about issues like corruption, poor governance, and the need for ethical leadership in both the public and private sectors.

In 2022, he made headlines for rejecting ex gratia payments made to Council of State members, calling them inappropriate in a struggling economy. This rare act of integrity earned him national and international praise, cementing his image as a man who leads by example.
