The 27th edition of the prestigious Telecel Ghana Music Awards lit up the Grand Arena in Accra on Saturday, 9 May 2026, with a spectacular celebration of Ghanaian music, culture and creativity.

The glamorous night brought together the nation’s biggest stars, industry stakeholders and music lovers for an unforgettable showcase of talent, excellence and achievement across multiple genres.

Leading the night’s triumphs was Black Sherif, who once again cemented his place at the summit of Ghanaian music after winning the coveted Artiste of the Year award. Repeating his historic 2023 feat, the “Iron Boy” hitmaker swept five major awards, proving his remarkable consistency and growing global influence.

In addition to the night’s highest honour, Black Sherif claimed Album/EP of the Year for Iron Boy, Songwriter of the Year for Sacrifice, Best Afropop Song, and Best Hiphop Song for WHERE DEM BOYS. His dominance reflected a year marked by record-breaking streaming numbers, international recognition and chart-topping releases.

The evening also belonged to Medikal, who delivered a strong comeback performance by winning four awards. The rapper reclaimed the Best Hiplife/Hiphop Artiste title and secured Most Popular Song of the Year, Best Hiplife Song and Collaboration of the Year with the viral anthem Shoulder, featuring Shatta Wale and Beeztrap Kotm.

Celebrated songwriter and highlife star Kofi Kinaata also enjoyed a successful night, taking home two awards including Best Highlife Artiste and Best Highlife Song for It Is Finished.

Internationally recognised singer Moliy continued her impressive global rise, winning Best Reggae/Dancehall Song and International Collaboration of the Year for the smash remix Shake It To The Max alongside Shenseea, Skillibeng and Silent Addy.

Elsewhere, Wendy Shay emerged as Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste, while reggae-dancehall heavyweight Stonebwoy secured the Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste award.

Gospel music also enjoyed strong representation on the night, with Diana Hamilton winning Best Gospel Artiste and Piesie Esther claiming Best Traditional Gospel Song for Nyame Ye.

One of the most emotional moments of the ceremony came when legendary highlife icon Daddy Lumba received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his immense contribution to Ghanaian music and culture over several decades.

Rising star Kojo Blak was crowned Best New Artiste, confirming his growing impact on the music scene following a breakthrough year filled with chart success and fan acclaim.

The 27th TGMA once again highlighted the diversity, global appeal and evolving strength of Ghana’s music industry, with artistes across hip-hop, afrobeats, gospel, reggae, dancehall and highlife all receiving recognition for their contributions.
