Son of Mango Founder Arrested in Dramatic Twist Over Tycoon’s Cliff Death

A shocking new development has emerged in the mysterious death of Mango fashion empire founder Isak Andic, after Spanish authorities arrested his son, Jonathan Andic, in connection with the billionaire businessman’s fatal fall from a cliff in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona.

Catalan police confirmed that Jonathan Andic, 45, was detained on Tuesday as part of a reopened investigation into the December 2024 tragedy that claimed the life of the 71-year-old fashion mogul. The case, which had initially been ruled an accident, has now taken a dramatic turn following reported inconsistencies in witness testimony and renewed scrutiny by investigators.

Isak Andic died after plunging into a ravine while hiking in the rugged Montserrat mountain region, one of Spain’s most famous natural landmarks. At the time, reports indicated he had been walking with his son, although conflicting accounts later emerged regarding whether other family members were also present during the incident.

Jonathan Andic has consistently denied any involvement in his father’s death. A spokesperson for the Andic family told Reuters that he was cooperating fully with authorities and that the family remained confident in his innocence.

Police reportedly escorted Jonathan from his residence shortly after 11:00 local time for further questioning. He later appeared before a judge, who granted him conditional release on a €1 million bail. The court also ordered the surrender of his passport and instructed him to report to authorities weekly while investigations continue.

The renewed probe follows reports by Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia that investigators revisited the case after identifying alleged contradictions in Jonathan’s earlier statements. Authorities had previously closed the investigation in early 2025 after concluding there was no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.

The late Isak Andic was widely regarded as one of Europe’s most influential retail entrepreneurs. Born in Turkey, he co-founded Mango in Barcelona alongside his brother Nahman in 1984. Over four decades, the brand grew into a global fashion powerhouse with nearly 3,000 stores across 120 countries.

Following his father’s death, Jonathan Andic, who joined the company in 2005 and later led the Mango Man division, was elevated to vice-chairman of the board, becoming one of the key figures overseeing the future of the retail giant.

At the time of his death, Forbes estimated Isak Andic’s net worth at approximately $4.5 billion, cementing his legacy as one of Spain’s richest businessmen.

In an emotional tribute after the tragedy, Mango CEO Toni Ruiz described Isak’s passing as a devastating loss for the company and the global fashion industry.

“His death leaves a huge void,” Ruiz said, adding that Mango’s continued growth and success would serve as the greatest tribute to the visionary entrepreneur whose influence transformed the brand into an international fashion leader.
