Jane Fara Fauzzier Afia Boafowaa Yahaya Awindor, popularly known by her stage name Efya, is a celebrated Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and actress whose soulful voice and unique artistry have made her one of Africa’s most admired performers. Born on April 10, 1987, in Kumasi, Ghana, Efya is the daughter of filmmaker and TV host Nana Adwoa Awindor, the iconic presenter of Greetings from Abroad.
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Efya developed her passion for music at an early age, receiving voice training from family members and honing her craft while studying at Yaa Asantewaa Secondary School and later the University of Ghana, where she earned a degree in Theatre and Music.
Her rise to fame began in 2006 when she competed in the first edition of Stars of the Future, emerging as the first runner-up. Though she lost to Irene Logan, Efya secured a three-year recording deal that led to their joint album Unveiled. After the contract ended, she reinvented herself, transitioning from Miss Jane to Efya, a name that symbolized her identity and artistic rebirth.
Breakthrough and Musical Journey
Efya signed with One Nation Entertainment in 2011 and released her debut mixtape, T.I.N.T (This Is Not The Album), in 2013. The 13-track project showcased her versatility and featured singles such as Getaway and Best in Me, cementing her reputation as a powerhouse vocalist.

She serves as an ambassador for the Awal Children of the Future Foundation (ACOTF), supporting orphans and victims of trauma through music and advocacy.
