Dangote Deepens Green Logistics Drive with 1,000+ CNG Truck Deal with China’s Foton

Nigerian industrial titan Aliko Dangote is accelerating his group’s transition to cleaner, cost-efficient logistics with a major new investment in compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles.

The Dangote Group has signed a fresh agreement in Beijing with Foton Motor for the supply of more than 1,000 CNG-powered trucks and semi-trailers. The move reinforces the conglomerate’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions and large-scale operational efficiency.

This latest order follows last year’s landmark acquisition of approximately 4,000 CNG trucks deployed to support nationwide fuel distribution from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, marking one of Africa’s largest transitions from diesel to gas-powered heavy-duty fleets.

Heavy-Duty Fleet Built for Scale

The newly ordered fleet will comprise CNG-capable tractor heads and semi-trailers designed specifically for long-haul logistics and heavy-duty industrial operations. These vehicles are expected to strengthen Dangote’s transport backbone across Nigeria and expand support for operations throughout Africa.

Beyond vehicle supply, the agreement also includes comprehensive after-sales maintenance, technical support, and collaboration on localized assembly infrastructure, a move aimed at boosting long-term reliability, operational efficiency, and potential technology transfer.

Strategic Talks Signal Long-Term Partnership

The signing ceremony was attended by top executives from Foton, including senior leadership from its parent company, BAIC Group. Discussions highlighted shared priorities around sustainable development, Africa’s energy transition, and opportunities for deeper collaboration.

Both parties explored prospects for expanded cooperation, including joint ventures and broader deployment of new energy commercial vehicles across key African markets. A formal delivery ceremony followed, symbolizing the next phase of a growing strategic partnership.

Driving Africa’s Energy Transition

Historically dependent on diesel-powered fleets, Dangote Group has faced rising fuel costs and mounting environmental concerns. The shift to CNG reflects a calculated strategy to reduce operational expenses while lowering carbon emissions.

CNG offers a cleaner-burning, more cost-stable alternative to diesel, delivering improved efficiency for long-haul routes and significantly reduced emissions. According to the company, the initial rollout of 4,000 CNG trucks has already delivered measurable gains in fuel savings, distribution efficiency, and environmental performance.
Dangote previously announced plans to operate a fleet predominantly powered by CNG by mid-2026, a target that now appears well within reach.

Industrial Expansion Meets

Environmental Responsibility
By partnering with Foton, one of the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, Dangote is leveraging China’s manufacturing scale and new-energy expertise to power Africa’s largest industrial logistics network with cleaner technology.

The initiative underscores how major corporations can align ambitious expansion strategies with environmental stewardship, building scalable, future-ready transport systems while reinforcing leadership in sustainable industrial operations.
With this latest investment, Dangote Group is not only strengthening its logistics capabilities but also setting a powerful benchmark for green transformation in Africa’s heavy-duty transport sector.
