Multi-talented Ghanaian entertainer Sister Deborah has reaffirmed her stance on the protection of our environment, especially the water bodies in Ghana.

The ‘Uncle Obama’ hitmaker had a lengthy discussion with Zeal Nana Kweku Bliss and his panelists on Class Xtra on Saturday, November 9, 2024. The interview touched on the journey of the life of the confident personality, as well as her artistic projects.

The African Mermaid, as she is affectionately called, had a lot to say about how negligence and unethical lifestyles have made our water bodies inconsumable. Some time ago, we comfortably drank water from the taps, rivers, lakes, and waterfalls, among other sources of water in the country. The situation is different now as the portability of these water bodies is deteriorating with time.

Civilization has had an immense influence on the situations of our sanitation. The use of leaves as a packaging material for food, which is a very healthy practice, is gradually fading away as we have adopted the use of plastic packaging on virtually all products in the country. Some of the plastic materials find their ways through the drainage systems into the sea after disposal, and this situation really affect the lives of aquatic animals.

“We are actually not doing what the West is doing. The West is now adopting what our forefathers were doing. Like, not using plastics, getting rid of the plastics, using banana leaves to wrap food.
You’ll go to Japan and find out that they’re now going back to the leaves and things that the colonial masters came and told us were wrong, ” the pretty singer stated.

Deborah is a seasoned advocate for the safety of aquatic life as the water bodies serve great profitability for all. Unlike before, most of the water bodies in Ghana are no longer safe for use, and it is harmful for aquatic animals. The habitats of these animals are being destroyed, with a number of unhealthy practices such as illegal mining and the excessive wrongful disposal of plastic waste.

The elegant model explained the effects of the use of disposable plastic material and how it is causing more harm than good, especially with our poor recycling culture. She has voluntarily been on this particular educational journey for a while. Unlike other materials, plastics take a very long time to decompose, which is a prime reason for its use to be reduced drastically.

The ‘Manka’ singer also spoke about the misplaced priorities in the country as the leaders of the country are more interested in the supposed agenda to get rid of the LGBTQ from the country. This has created some sort of pressure for individuals born with some features of the opposite sex, a feminine male, and a masculine female. She cited that these harmless individuals have been given the center stage of the country rather than more pressing issues such as the conflict in Bawku, which is taking numerous innocent lives each day.

Ghanaians must surely go back to their roots and pick some of the healthy practices to help curtail the continually increasing health challenges in the country.
