Awardwinning Ghanaian Highlife singer and rapper Martin Kofi King Arthur, known for his craft as Kofi Kinaata, has made a public statement on songs that do not serve any meaningful purpose.

The crafty singer, who recently touched the hearts of Ghanaian music lovers with his latest single, Effiekuma Broken Heart had a phone-in interview with Zeal Nana Kweku Bliss on Class FM’s entertainment program, Class Xtra on Saturday, April 27, 2024 to give some insight on his upcoming project.

When asked about the idea he likes to portray in his music to his listeners, Kinaata revealed that he is of a school of thought that music must serve a purpose. He recollected one principle he was once told while climbing the ladder of prominence in the music space that a song should inform, educate, or entertain. “Whenever you listen to a song, you should either laugh or cry. Songs without these things are a waste of time, ” he added.

In response to the inquiry of Zeal on if the Effiekuma Broken Heart song is out of experience, the Susuka hitmaker revealed that he sings about life and falling in love as well as getting broken hearted is also part of life. He added that, so far as the song is not preaching anything alien and is good for consumption, it is good to go.

The EP, which has no features, is expected to be available by the 10th day of May. The seven track collection is expected to have a song with rap. He went on to state that there is time for everyone and is very happy the EP is ready after a long period of releasing single tracks. He also joked about how he will need more time to explain lyrics of each song on the EP since he has always faced such situations when he releases a song.

The Effiekuma rapper, who is more of a singer now, usually works on his projects alone, and the EP is no exception. He has few features, with the likes of Samini, Donzy Chaka, and his surprise feature with Shatta Wale being the few to recollect. After seeing out his contract at High Grade Family, the boss of Team Move has gone on to make every stakeholder of his career proud as he won and got numerous nominations enviable songwriter of the year consecutively in the various music awards schemes related to Ghana. He has been one of the respected songwriters in the country since his emergence.

Ghanaian song writers have picked up and are meeting the standards of the likes of Kofi Kinaata, Bullet, Akwaboah, Samini, Kuami Eugene, King Promise, Stonebwoy, Fameye, Black Sherif among others. We have had stunch rappers such as King Paluta and Amerado Burner and a few others bossing and touching souls with their songwriting and delivery skills in recent times.

It will be great to have more of these great songwriters churning out good music to entertain, inform, and educate music lovers. This can help in sanitizing our airwaves as well as projecting our music to the world.
