In a surprising turn of events, Mr. Yahaya has written to the French embassy in Ghana, challenging the inclusion of Sarkodie in the upcoming Africa Fan Zone at the Olympic Games.
Mr. Yahaya claims that Sarkodie does not have the moral right to perform at the event. This challenge is linked to an incident from last year when actress Yvonne Nelson released her memoir titled “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson.” She revealed that she was once pregnant by Sarkodie, who advised her to terminate the pregnancy but she insisted on keeping the baby. In response, Sarkodie released a track titled “Try Me,” detailing his perspective and the struggles he faced during their relationship.
He argues that Sarkodie is a misogynist and therefore should not be allowed to perform at such a prestigious event. His letter was written to the French embassy on July 8th. In the reply sent on July 19th, the French embassy acknowledged Mr. Yahaya’s concerns and the importance of gender equality. However, they clarified that the Olympics are separate from the Africa Fan Zone activities.
The embassy stated that the Fan Zone is a private event organized to provide African artists and fans with an enjoyable experience during the Olympic Games. Therefore, the decision to include Sarkodie in the lineup stands, as it is not directly related to the Olympic Games.
Despite the controversy, fans of the celebrated rapper are eager to see him perform. The Africa Fan Zone is expected to be a vibrant celebration of African culture and talent during the Olympics. Sarkodie is set to perform at the 2024 Olympic Africa Fan Zone event, ‘Station Afrique,’ which will take place on August 9, 2024, at Stade Robert César in L’Île-Saint-Deni.
