
The Upper East Region has been shaken by a shocking and tragic incident involving the Bongo District Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Mr. Akugri Mahamadu Seidu. He was gruesomely killed and his body set ablaze in his car. The heartbreaking incident took place on the evening of Monday, 19th May 2025, around 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Nangodi in the Nabdam District.
According to reports, Mr. Akugri was on his way home from Bolgatanga when unknown attackers ambushed him. They shot him and set his vehicle on fire, burning his body beyond recognition. Sources say Mr. Akugri, who is a Kusaasi by tribe, may have been targeted by people who had been closely monitoring his movements. Normally, he visited his family on Fridays, but for reasons unknown, he chose to travel on that Monday instead.
This cruel act has brought fear and tension among the people of the Upper East Region, especially within the Bongo and surrounding communities. Many residents are now calling for stronger security measures and a swift investigation to bring justice to the deceased and his family.
The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Majority Leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, condemned the murder and expressed his deep condolences to the bereaved family. He called on the police and other security agencies to act quickly and find those responsible. He also urged the public to remain calm and support the ongoing peace efforts being led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, aimed at restoring lasting peace in Bawku.

Many fear that innocent lives, like that of Mr. Akugri, could continue to be lost if urgent steps are not taken to resolve the conflict.
