Paul Pogba’s four-year drug ban has been reduced to just 18 months, allowing him to return to football in 2025. This decision came from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), as reported by Mail Sport.
The Juventus Midfielder, was initially suspended on September 11, 2023, for testing positive for a banned substance. With the reduced ban, he can start training with Juventus in January 2025. He’ll be allowed to play in official matches by March 2025.
This ruling is a major relief for the World Cup winner. A four-year suspension could have forced Pogba into early retirement. However, thanks to the CAS decision, he has a clear path back to professional football. He released a statement and this is what he has to say:
“Finally, the nightmare is over and I can look forward to the day when I can follow my dreams again and again.
I always stated that I never knowingly breached Anti-Doping regulations, I play with integrity… and I want to thank Court of Arbitration who heard my explanation. This has been a hugely distressing period in my life, everything I’ve worked so hard has been put on hold.
Thank you for all the love and support once again.
I can’t wait to get back on the pitch!”.
According to reports, evidence linked to the case includes a photo of a pill bottle with the name “10X Health Systems” on it, which was connected to Pogba’s situation. This evidence likely played a role in the decision to shorten his suspension.
Even though he is back to active football, Transfer specialist, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Juventus is preparing to part ways with the Italian International. He is set to leave Juventus in January as a free agent.
Now, Pogba has a second chance at continuing his football career, and fans can expect to see him back in action sooner than initially feared.
