Kwame Yorgot recently made a surprising revelation. The rapper shared that his hit song, “Biibi Besi,” was almost chosen by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be their campaign song for the upcoming elections. The song, featuring Kuami Eugene, was one of the most popular tracks in Ghana in 2023, making waves across the country.

The NPP, like many political parties, often uses popular songs during their rallies and campaigns to connect with voters. These songs help create a lively atmosphere and can influence the mood and opinions of potential voters. The NPP’s interest in “Biibi Besi” shows how powerful and influential this song has become.

During an interview on Okay FM, Kwame Yorgot revealed that the NPP made a significant offer to use his song. According to him, a leader from the NPP, Honorable Nana Akomea, reached out to discuss the possibility of using “Biibi Besi” for their campaign. The party offered GH₵500,000 for the rights to the song.
” I was contacted by a leader from the NPP to get a deal for BIIBI BESI as a campaign rally song. However, my former management stepped in and requested ghc1,000,000. Honorable Nana Akomea contacted me and we had several meetings, like 4 times but my management at the time did not agree. And because I had issues with my management at the time, I couldn’t push further for the deal” He said.

However, the deal did not go through. Kwame Yorgot explained that his former management team stepped in and requested a much higher amount—GH₵1,000,000. The NPP was not willing to pay this amount, and the negotiations fell apart. Despite having several meetings, Kwame Yorgot could not push for the deal due to ongoing issues with his management at the time.

Kwame Yorgot’s revelation sheds light on the business side of politics and music in Ghana. It shows how political parties value popular culture and are willing to invest in it to boost their campaigns. However, it also highlights how business decisions, such as the demands of management teams, can impact opportunities for artists.

For now, “Biibi Besi” remains a hit song loved by many Ghanaians, but it won’t be playing at NPP rallies anytime soon.
