Ghanaian Afrobeat singer and dancer Andrew Nii Commey Otoo, professionally known as Mr Drew, has advised Ghanaians to desist from political violence ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The amazing vocalist was on Class Xtra, hosted by Zeal Nana Kweku Bliss on Class FM, to create awareness of his latest single,’Sumor Mi’, which features Ghanaian rapper, Medikal. He also spoke about a few situations related to his brand as a musician.

According to the amazing vocalist, being involved attacks during political seasons is an unworthy course. Politicians can not assure political touts of their safety despite being assumed as the planners of the distasteful acts. Considering the shortage of beds in public hospitals here in Ghana, it will be detrimental to the lives of any individual who sustains any form of injury, especially in this delicate period.

“I’m gonna keep saying this. You’re helping somebody achieve his dreams. At the end of the day, that’s what you have to know.
So, in doing that, do not go and hurt yourself. If you’re putting the person the person in power and you want them to come and help you, they can’t help you if you’re hurt.” the renowned Ghanaian singer advised.

The ‘Mood’ hitmaker added that after exercising their franchise, political sympathizers should go home to secure their peace as they wait for the winners of the elections to be announced. He also ask that they stay away from causing commotions just to ensure their favorite political party gains political power. They can join the winning party to celebrate and create a positive energy in the country.
“Even if your party loses, don’t worry, we will jam with you. At the end of the day, we are all humans, and this is for Ghana.” the multiple award-winning singer added.

Mr Drew released ‘Road Clear’, which Shatta Wale was featured on, about a month ago. He has now teamed up with Medikal to produce a melodious titled ‘Sumor Mi’. The song is expected to create some excitement in the country as the elections and the Christmas festivities draw near.

The former Highly Spiritual Music signee also touched on his ‘Sneaky’ song and is considering a remix with either King Promise, Olive The Boy, or Kojo Black. The song, which was recorded last year and released this year, has created some significant impact in the Ghanaian music space, and a remix may take the song a notch higher.

Mr Drew also made mention of his upcoming project, Lover Boy Era EP, which is scheduled to be released on the Valentines Day of 2025. The six-pack project suits the period of release as it seeks to create some familiar love moods with his musical talent. He added that there would be a listening party on the said release date. Further updates on the project will be relayed to the general public as time goes on.

The political parties in Ghana need to play pivotal roles in creating an enabling environment for a violence-free election exercise. The Electoral Commission of Ghana should also ensure that the elections are organized in a free and fair manner. This will ensure the confidence of Ghanaians in the electoral process of the peaceful country.
