Ghanaian comedian and skit maker, Timothy Musa Junior Abaaddu, widely known as MJ The Comedian, has revealed how his yearly festival has created opportunities for others to earn some business opportunities.
The kindhearted comedian had an interesting conversation with Zeal Nana Kweku Bliss on Class Xtra on Saturday, June 29, 2024, ahead of this year’s edition of his ever-growing Dashiki festival.
The seasonal health walk, which is headlined by 1XBet for the second year running, is scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 2024 will commence at the Trade Fair Centre, to the Independence Square and end at the La Girls School. The #RepYourTribe edition is aimed at promoting the distinguished and beautiful cultural heritage of the various ethnic in Ghana. This is going to help project our authentic Ghanaian mode of dressing, which is our identity that is gradually fading out due to modernization.
The festival, which has been in existence for the past ten years but has this as its eighth edition due to the Covid 19 pandemic, which took two years off the calendar of the thoughtful initiative. The idea of festival came forth between the years 2013 and 2014, when he was very consistent with the production of his comic skits.
A fan of the comedian in the diaspora incited the talented comedian to come up with something that would aid him in identifying his organic fan base. He then took advantage of the prominence of the beautiful African print outfit during the period called Dashiki and organized a walk where almost every attendee rocked the colorful attire.
The winner of the comedy skit actor and philanthropist of the year awards at the 2024 Ghana Comedy Awards identified some great benefits of this beautiful journey aside from the health benefits. Despite losing the contact of the supposed sponsor, MJ went on and had an impressive event. The turnout of the primary edition got him enthused, which encouraged him to organize the second edition, and he has not looked back since then.
According to the comedian, the festival provided some attendees with the opportunities of networking to help grow their business community. It also created avenues for vendors to have some busy periods, which surely reflects in their earnings. He also revealed that there have been a couple of marriages and romantic relationships that were born out of some of the episodes of the Dashiki festival.
The skilled comedian revealed that all his colleagues in the comedy industry will participate in this event, provided they are available. There will be musical performances from the likes of Wisa Greid, King Jerry, and JJ Gonamy, among other great musical performers. The Regional Comander of the Ghana Police Service has been contacted and will provide security during all activities.
MJ The Comedian, along with his colleagues such as Foster Romanus, Jacinta, OB Amponsah, DKB, and Lekzy DeComic, among few others, have helped in shaping their creative space to be attractive. They have, in recent times, amassed huge numbers at their events, churning out a number of great talents.
