Ghanaians Afrobeats and Dancehall artiste, J Derobie, known in real life as Derick Obuobie, has finally revealed the healthy relationship between himself and his former boss, Mr Eazi.

The Poverty hitmaker, as part of the promotional strategies for his latest album, had a one-on-one conversation on Class Xtra with Zeal Nana Kweku Bliss on Class FM. He touched on his long absence in the media space, life after Empawa Music, and his new project, Firm After All.

The former Empawa Music signee stated categorically that he has a very good relationship with Mr Eazi. He still receives some songwriter contracts from Mr Eazi, and they have a cordial relationship despite their separation as an artiste and a label boss. This is a commendable show of maturity from both parties as most of such separation forms unfortunate breeds of bad blood, unlike this very one.

J Derobie also revealed that Empawa made him learn the music business and got him exposed to certain things that are going to aid him in running his new record label, Turfway Records. Speaking on his new record label, the Turf Way records boss confessed about the complexities of overseeing such a mountainous task, but, in the long run, it is the best decision to make. He seeks to use this medium to empower and push other great talents just as Empawa did for him.

The Ghanaian Afrobeats and Dancehall Act revealed that his latest Extended Playlist, which has no vocal feature, was birthed during some hard times in his life. The five-track project, Wavez 1 of Firm After All, released on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 signifies a new era in the career of the talented artiste as it is his first major project after his exit from Empawa Music. When asked about his absence in the media space, J Derobie revealed that nothing happened, just releasing and observing the music market, and the products he just released are testament to his observations.

After coming out with this mind-blowing project, the talented singer has plans to release the second and third installments of the series of this grand project. This is definitely a huge statement from the Ghanaian Afrobeats ambassador after his supposed sabbatical leave from the mainstream music scene. “This one is Wavez 1, and Wavez 2 comes through later this year..” the exciting singer added.

Poverty, his breakthrough song, released in 2019, which got him all the recognitions and supports, also captured the interest of Jamaican superster, Popcaan. The proud product or Empawa Music has amazing collections such as Grains From Love & Reality and Nungua Diaries to his credit.

As the first child of a single mother, J Derobie had to shoulder a number of family responsibilities. The amazing singer started his hustle as a worker of Zoom Lion Ghana Limited after school, where he worked for almost a year. His family and other acquaintances should be proud of how far the young man has come when they look back at his past struggles.

J Derobie hopes music lovers, most especially, the Capital Youth Movement, keep loving and supporting him on a journey full of good music. Firm After All is on all digital platforms, and it is a project worth patronizing.
