King Paluta, the popular rapper known for his hit song “Aseda,” recently shared his thoughts on the idea of bringing the Grammy Awards to Africa. He believes that doing so would reduce the value of the prestigious award.
Speaking on UTV with Mzgee, King Paluta explained that the Grammy Awards should remain a goal for African artists to achieve on the global stage. According to him, keeping the awards in the USA provides African artists with a great opportunity to excel and gain international exposure.
He pointed out that the Grammy Awards night in the USA is attended by many important industry players and major record labels like Sony Music, Def Jam, and Universal. These influential attendees may not come to an African version of the Grammys, which would limit the exposure that African artists currently receive. King Paluta emphasized that this exposure is crucial for African artists to compete with musicians from other continents.
The Recording Academy, which organizes the Grammy Awards, has planned to create a separate Grammy scheme for African artists. This new Grammy event would be held in Africa and focus on awarding African artists for their hard work. However, King Paluta feels that the existing Grammy Awards provide a unique platform for African artists to shine on a bigger stage, and Hosting the African version in Africa to celebrate African Artiste could diminish its value and impact. So they should all be allowed to compete from various spheres for awards in Europe.
