The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has fulfilled its promise to provide new buses to top-performing clubs in the Division One League (DOL) and Women’s Premier League (WPL). GFA President Kurt Okraku handed over nine buses to the clubs, marking the success of the association’s bus acquisition strategy.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Okraku emphasized the importance of the initiative in addressing transportation challenges faced by clubs. He explained, “During our congress in Kumasi, I spoke about identified needs in the football ecosystem, including the lack of transport. Players need to travel in comfort for their games, and we implemented this strategy to meet that need.”
These buses are part of the GFA’s merit awards for the 2023/2024 season and will continue in upcoming seasons. Okraku noted that the strategy also includes the Women’s Premier League, with four clubs set to benefit next week.
Clubs that received the buses are as follows:
- Zone 1: Young Apostles, Victory Club Warriors, and Techiman Heroes.
- Zone 2: Basake Holy Stars, New Edubiase, and Ebusua Dwarfs.
- Zone 3: Vision FC, Hohoe United, and Okwawu United.
This milestone aligns with Okraku’s earlier remarks at the GFA’s 30th Ordinary Congress in June, where he highlighted challenges in clearing the buses and called for government support to expedite the process. “The first 13 buses have arrived in Ghana, but we’ve faced difficulties clearing them from the port,” Okraku said.
Looking ahead, the GFA plans to provide an additional five buses next season. Three will go to Division One League clubs and two to Women’s Premier League clubs, reinforcing the association’s commitment to improving football infrastructure in Ghana.
This initiative is a significant step towards enhancing club resources and supporting the growth of football across the country.
