In a Twitter post, Tahiru shared a breakdown of the GFA’s budget for the World Cup, and the numbers were jaw-dropping. For example, Otto Addo’s Personal Assistant was paid $20,000—the same amount as Ghana’s scouts. The Ministry’s purseholder, who was simply doing his job, received $10,000. But the most shocking detail was the $100,000 appearance fee for 54 people. With only 26 players on the team, this means 28 other individuals were set to receive $100,000 each. Who are these people? Tahiru questioned why such a huge amount was even requested in the first place.
The Black Stars’ performance in Qatar was disappointing, as they were knocked out in the group stages. While the team struggled on the field, it seems the GFA management and staff were busy making money off the campaign. This has left many Ghanaians feeling betrayed, as their tax revenue was used to fund what appears to be wasteful spending.
