Beda’s Association, a leading alternative musical space for socially disadvantaged children in Accra, Ghana, and the Afro-Pfingsten Festival, a prominent cultural event in Winterthur, Switzerland, are thrilled to announce the release of the first episode of their collaborative documentary series. This groundbreaking project aims to showcase Ghana’s rich musical heritage and foster international collaborations.
Episode 1: Universal Wonderful Street Academy
The inaugural episode, with “Universal Wonderful Street Academy,” focuses on the inspiring story of Nii Kwanchie II, who has been officially crowned as a king in Jamestown, a historic fishing community in Accra. In this challenging environment, Nii Kwanchie II established the Universal Wonderful Street Academy, where music and African culture provide the youth with joy, purpose, and hope.

Background and Collaboration
The partnership between Beda’s Association and the Afro-Pfingsten Festival began during a field research trip by the Afro-Pfingsten team to explore the roots of Ghanaian music. This meeting proved to be mutually enriching, sparking the idea for the documentary series. The series will not only highlight the vibrant Ghanaian music and art scene but also promote collaborations with artists for future performances at the Afro-Pfingsten Festival in Switzerland.
