Ghanaian Hip Life rapper, Gurunkz, born, Maradona Yeboah Adjei has revealed his efforts in giving upcoming acts the opportunity to shine.
The rapper who had his first major feature on Obrafour’s song ‘Kasiebo’, bringing him into the national spotlight, was Zeal Nana Kweku Bliss’ guest on Class FM’s Class Xtra on Saturday, March 30, 2024. He spoke extensively about the good, bad, and ugly side of his captivating music career.
The Bonsam Ani hit maker, who is known for his contemporary hip-hop rap style that combines English and Twi language, with crazy street jargons, unpacked the reasons behind his strange tastes in musical collaborations. He revealed how he always tries to be impactfully different and curve a nitch market for his craft.
“Almost all my major collaborations are with upcoming artistes. It is all about playing the smart game to push and create an empire. I was shooting with Stip and later brought in Xbills Ebenezer. I started working Danny beatz, King Dee.” the multiple hit maker revealed.
Talented singers such as Singlet, Kweysi Swat, Iyk Wonder, an a few other artistes have been heard due to Guru’s mission to get these great talents some listening ears. Upcoming artist Kwadjo Shaft, who was in the Class FM studios with the Nkoranza superste, also had some minutes to exhibit his talent and create some shine for his song, Higher.
Talking about his feature with Ghanaian skitmaker and acto Dr Likee, Guru disclosed the fact that he started that strategy with Kwadwo Nkansah Liwin. He added that he had Kwaku Manu in mind, but, he was out with ‘Wobete Kraw’ and he does not like already made products, so, he picked Liwin to work with, which has created a new path for the renowned comedian.
Guru, who grew up in Darkuman in Accra, share the majority of his upcoming collections with Tema-based rappe Sarkodie. He recorded his first mixtape video with the Ghanaian rapper in late 2009. He came out with his first studio album, Platform, which also featured Sarkodie. The duo has over thirty unreleased songs together, earlier on in their careers due to how close and highly motivated they were back then. They had different aspiration, although the main dream is to be successful, which they surely are now.
Guru, now a regular student and a proud V Mate, who is currently a third year studying political science in the University of Ghana, Legon is aspiring to be the president of the Student Representative Counsil jusl like Samini did at GIMPA. He expressed his desire to study law afterward, and probably, his political aspirations may unfold.
Unfortunately, Guru is yet toreceived an award from Vodafone Ghana Music Award, who has rebranded to Telecel Ghana Music Awards, despite having numerous nominations for his great contributions to the Ghanaian Music Industry. There is one thing that can never be taken from him, which is his ability to create a superstar from an unknown figure.
