This latest donation follows previous scholarship packages from the university — 50 scholarships were awarded to the Ghana Prisons Service and The initiative is part of Accra Met’s broader social responsibility program to reward institutions making significant contributions to national development.
In a remarkable and forward-thinking move, 10 out of the 60 scholarships will go to inmates, a proposal made by the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.). The idea was warmly embraced by Professor Goski Alabi, President of Accra Metropolitan University, who described it as “a powerful step towards rehabilitation, reintegration, and national progress.”
Speaking at the event, Lawyer Baffoe-Bonnie highlighted how this partnership represents a new standard for educational support to the Prisons Service. “We’ve had collaborations in the past — including one with s public University but nothing as comprehensive and inclusive as this,” she said.
Both leadership teams were present at the occasion. The Prisons Service was represented by the Director-General and some of her management while Prof. Alabi led the university’s delegation. Their mutual show of respect and collaboration was evident throughout the event.
This scholarship initiative is not just about academics—it’s about hope, change, and empowerment. For both staff and inmates, the opportunity to pursue higher education through Accra Met promises a brighter, more productive future.
