Akosua Agyapong (born 17th November 1969) is a celebrated Ghanaian highlife legend, gospel singer, and television personality whose impact on the entertainment industry has spanned over three decades. A dynamic vocalist with an unmistakable stage presence, Akosua is widely admired for blending culture, rhythm, and melody into timeless music that continues to inspire generations.

Early Life and Education

Born in Accra, Ghana to Asante and Akyem parents, Akosua grew up in a household that valued both tradition and faith. She had her secondary education at Holy Child High School in Cape Coast, where her love for music blossomed. Raised by a Catholic mother and an Anglican father, she was exposed to diverse values and influences that shaped both her artistry and personal journey.

Musical Journey

Akosua’s talent was discovered in the 1990s by highlife legend Nana Ampadu, who introduced her into the world of professional music. She made her grand entry with the release of her debut album Frema on January 1, 1990. The album produced instant hits such as:

Following this success, Akosua collaborated with Nat Brew and Rex Omar to form the famous Highlife Supergroup NAKOREX in 1992. Their hit single Kpanlogo remains one of Ghana’s most iconic songs, representing the golden era of highlife.

She later ventured into gospel music, showcasing her versatility as an artist. To date, Akosua has released five solo albums, in addition to her collaborative projects with NAKOREX and other musicians.

Recognition and Legacy

In recognition of her exceptional contribution to Ghanaian music, Akosua Agyapong was celebrated at the 3Music Awards for her outstanding achievements. In August 2019, she was further honored at the event “Celebrating Akosua Adjepong 30@50”, marking three decades of musical excellence as she turned 50.

Personal Life

Akosua was once married to her NAKOREX bandmate Amandzeba Nat Brew, with whom she has four children. She is now happily married to Prophet Daniel Asamoah-Larbi, and together they have two children, bringing her total to six. Despite the ups and downs of her personal life, she has remained a resilient figure in the public eye, admired for her strength, grace, and influence.
