Oheneyere Dr. Gifty Anti: A Trailblazer in Media, Gender Advocacy, and Women Empowerment

Oheneyere Dr. Gifty Anti, born on January 23, 1970, is one of Ghana’s most celebrated journalists, broadcasters, and gender advocates. Best known as the host of The Standpoint, a thought-provoking television programme that amplifies issues affecting women, she has become a strong and inspiring voice for gender equality and social change both in Ghana and beyond.

Early Life & Education

Though originally from Cape Coast in the Central Region, Gifty was born and raised in Tema in the Greater Accra Region, the last of eight siblings. Her childhood was marked by hardship, which forced her to hawk on the streets and take up carpentry jobs to support herself. These early struggles, however, shaped her resilience, discipline, and determination to succeed.

She had her basic education at Tema Community 8 “Number 1” School and later attended Mfantsiman Girls Secondary School, where she served as Entertainment Prefect. Gifty further pursued journalism at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), where she was elected Women’s Commissioner. She later advanced her studies abroad, earning a Master’s degree in International Journalism from City, University of London.

Media Career

Her media journey began as an intern at the Ghana News Agency and the Ghanaian Times, where she worked under the mentorship of Liz Hayfron. She later joined the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), initially as a floor manager before rising to become a news presenter and eventually a household name on GTV.

Today, she is not only the host of The Standpoint, which also airs on ABN TV in the UK, but also the CEO of GDA Concepts. Her show has grown into a respected platform for discussing pressing social and women’s issues, inspiring countless viewers across generations.

Family Life

Gifty is married to Nana Ansah Kwao IV, the Chief of Akwamu Adumasa. Their royal and elegant wedding took place on October 25, 2015 at the Trinity Baptist Church. Two years later, on August 11, 2017, the couple welcomed their miracle daughter, Nyame Anuonyam, who remains a source of immense joy and pride to Gifty.
