Ghana’s Big Push Programme: More Roads, More Opportunities
In a bold stride toward national development, the Ministry of Finance has earmarked a sweeping list of road infrastructure projects as part of its 2025 Big Push Programme. These projects aim to bridge rural-urban divides, boost agriculture, and ease transportation bottlenecks across the country. Below are five more projects that are expected to bring major transformation to their respective areas:
1. Rehabilitation of Wenchi – Sawla Road
Stretching across parts of the Bono and Savannah regions, the Wenchi–Sawla road has long been in need of rehabilitation. As an important north-south corridor, its improvement will greatly benefit traders, farmers, and transport operators. It will also serve as a quicker alternative route for travelers heading toward northern Ghana, reducing wear and tear on vehicles and improving safety for passengers.
2. Rehabilitation of Gbintri – Nakpanduri Road
In Ghana’s North East Region, the Gbintri–Nakpanduri road plays a vital role in connecting farming communities to local markets and health services. Its rehabilitation will not only improve access but also facilitate security operations and social inclusion in one of the country’s often-overlooked zones. Better roads here mean more accessible healthcare, education, and emergency services.
3. Dualization of Winneba – Mankessim Road
This key stretch on the Central Region corridor is notorious for traffic congestion and accidents due to its single-lane design. The dualization of the Winneba–Mankessim road will drastically improve flow, especially during holidays when road usage peaks. It’s a major win for tourism, intercity transport, and goods movement between Accra and the western parts of the country.
4. Upgrading of Akosombo–Gyakiti–Kudikope Road
This project is vital for opening up parts of the Eastern Region that border the Volta Lake. The upgrade will improve mobility for riverine communities and support the tourism potential around Akosombo and the Lake Volta area. Easier access will also encourage domestic tourism and boost small-scale businesses in the area.
5. Reconstruction of Dodowa – Afienya – Dawhenya Road
Serving as a vital eastern exit from Accra, this road is essential for easing pressure on the Tema Motorway and facilitating commuter movement. Its reconstruction will benefit residents of Dodowa, Afienya, and Dawhenya, many of whom work in Accra but live on the outskirts. The road also connects to key agricultural zones and could help decongest Accra’s fresh produce markets by allowing smoother transport of goods.

As construction continues, citizens across the country can look forward to not just shorter travel times, but longer-lasting progress.
