“We Were Family Before Politics….” – Desaan Writes on Dangers of Politics on Family Values

I am deeply troubled by how politics has infiltrated our families, creating unnecessary divisions and tension. With the just a few days to the 7th December Polls, this issue has become more evident. Political affiliations, instead of uniting us, have sadly driven wedges between family members who once shared laughter and love.

The reality is that, heated arguments, resentment, and estrangement are now common in many Ghanaian homes. Brothers are pitted against sisters, parents against children, all in the name of supporting different political parties. This is not only disheartening but also dangerous. Politics, at its core, should serve as a tool to build our nation, not to destroy the bond of family.

What we must understand is this: we were a family before politics, and we will remain a family after politics. Politicians come and go; governments change, but the love and unity of our families must endure. Our loyalty should be to one another, not to political parties or candidates who may not even know our struggles personally.

As the elections draw near, do not allow the manipulative nature of politics to stain your relationships as a family. Politicians will campaign, but it is up to us to protect the harmony in our homes. Engage in political discussions respectfully, appreciating diverse views. Above all, prioritize family unity over party loyalty.
