On Tuesday, October 15, rapper and actor Fat Joe took center stage as the host of the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards for the third time. He kicked off the show with a powerful performance of his hit track “Make It Rain,” joined by DJ Spinatik, setting an energetic tone for the night.
The evening was a big one for Kendrick Lamar, the West Coast rap icon, who led the competition. Nominated for 11 categories, Lamar walked away with 8 awards. He earned titles like “Lyricist of the Year,” “Hip Hop Artist of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” and “Video Director of the Year” for his collaboration with Dave Free on their hit “Not Like Us.”
Travis Scott was honored with the “I Am Hip Hop” award, presented by actress and singer Teyana Taylor, highlighting his influence and contributions to the genre.
The night also featured electrifying performances from some of hip hop’s biggest names, including Trina, Yung Miami, Juicy J, and 2 Chainz, keeping the audience on their feet and showcasing the genre’s dynamic energy.
Notably, Nicki Minaj made history by becoming the first woman to win “Album of the Year” at the BET Hip Hop Awards with her album Pink Friday 2.
