The reigning TELECEL GHANA MUSIC AWARDS Artiste of the year Stonebwoy, has expressed his disappointment about Ghana not being a founding member of the Grammy Africa Awards. The BET awards winner, believes this failure hurts Ghana’s reputation in the international music scene.
Stonebwoy highlighted that countries like Nigeria, Rwanda, and South Africa have secured their spots as founding members by paying the required fees and fulfilling all necessary criteria. In contrast, Ghana is likely to miss out because Government couldn’t afford to make the necessary payments. He emphasized that being part of Grammy Africa, similar to the Latin Grammy, offers significant benefits for the growth and expansion of Ghana’s creative industry.
While Stonebwoy acknowledges the efforts of industry figures who have worked on the Grammy Africa initiative, he is disappointed with the Ghana government’s inability to secure founding member status. He has called on the government to explain why they didn’t make the necessary payments and suggested seeking assistance from the private sector to seize this valuable opportunity.
On Twitter(X), Stonebwoy shared his thoughts, saying, “These schemes, namely Grammys, BETs, GMAs, MVAs, etc., are institutions that will forever control vital narratives concerning music, arts, and entertainment globally. Aligning with them has great benefits and economic potential for the growth and expansion of Ghana’s creative industry. Thanks to @Dentaa_show and others for playing pivotal roles to make sure Ghana is not left out. But as it stands, we are closing in on being left out to become another mockery case. The governments of Nigeria, Rwanda, and South Africa have all paid and sealed their service agreements to become founding members.
The big question is WHY NOT GHANA???
CAN GOV’T NOT RAISE THE MONEY???
CAN GOV’T ASK PRIVATE SEC TO HELP RAISE THE MONEY??
IS IT NOT IMPORTANT TO BE A PART OF THIS?”
Grammy Africa, organized by the Recording Academy, aims to expand the Grammy Awards to the African continent. The awards will be held within Africa and focus solely on African entertainment creatives. Founding membership involves meeting specific criteria, including payments and documentation. Countries like Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda, and Kenya have met these requirements and made the necessary payments, making them founding members. These countries now have the chance to host the maiden edition of the award scheme.
