Masicka’s ‘Generation Of Kings’ Nominated For Album Of The Year At The 2024 Caribbean Music Awards

Masicka’s “Generation of Kings” is up for Album of the Year (Dancehall) at the 2024 Caribbean Music Awards.

This follows his 2023 win in the same category for his debut album “438.”

“Generation of Kings” debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard Reggae Albums chart dated December 16, 2023. The album sold 3,500 album equivalent units in streams and sales during its first week. Of this amount, 600 units were pure copies, while 4,400,000 units came from streams according to data provided to WMV by Billboard sales tracker Luminate.

GOK debuted at No. 14 on the US Billboard Heat-Seekers Albums chart and is the second longest running album in the top ten on Apple Music Jamaica. The record is held by “438,” which has spent more than two years in the top 10.

In total, the 1Syde artist has five nods, and included in the category is Valiant’s 4:14, Byron Messia’s “No Love,” Time Bomb EP by Cham and Bounty Killer, Beenie Man’s Simma, Popcaan’s “Great Is He,” and Aidonia’s “Occupied Mind.”

Jamaican singer Dexta Daps leads the nominations this year with eight nods, including Performer of the Year (Dancehall) and the People’s Choice Award. Skinny Fabulous follows with six nominations.

Yung Bredda, Bounty Killer, and Machel Montano also received five nods each. Asa Bantan, Tee Jay, Cham, Byron Messia, Patrice Roberts, Rajah Wild, Nailah Blackman and Problem Child each garnered four nominations.

The Caribbean Music Awards recognize artists, producers and industry professionals who have significantly contributed to the Caribbean music landscape.

This year’s nominations span more than 40 categories, covering a diverse range of genres, including reggae, soca and dancehall.

This year, the awards introduce new categories, such as International DJ, French Caribbean Artist, Latin Caribbean Artist and Bouyon Artist of the Year, alongside traditional categories like Chutney, Calypso and Konpa Honors.

Voting is now open on the Caribbean Music Awards website, (link unavailable), and will conclude on June 30. The live show will happen on Thursday, August 29, at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY.
