Ghanaian Hip Hop and Hip Life artiste, Kwabena Sarfo Kantanka, widely known as Amerado Burner, has questioned the exclusion of his popular Song Kwaku Ananse from last night’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards Nominations.
The impressive rapper, who hails from the great Ashanti Kingdom was surprised and frustrated with the fact that the original version of his Kwaku Ananse song, which at a point in time took over the whole country was exempted from the nomination list of this year’s event.
The Twi dominated rapper, who had a lot of activities in the year under review, also missed out on the Artiste Of The Year category. He had two of the biggest songs in the country in the form of Kwaku Ananse and Abronoma. The Kwaku Ananse song also got a feature of emotional Ghanaian singer, Fameye, on the remix.
There was also a joint album, Young & Strong EP, which was a collaborative project of himself and his senior in the game, Strongman Burner. Amerado also organized his first outdoor event, My Motherland Concert, at the Okese Park in Ejisu and headlining a few other high profile stage appearances.
Amerado has been nominated in the rapper of the Year category in sequence for some years now, winning the previous edition despite competitions from Sarkodie, Medikal, Strongman, Lyrical Joe and Eno Barony to become the first rapper from Kumasi to win that particular category. He has had some lyrical feud with the likes of Medikal, Obibini, Kofi Mole, and most recently, the intensified one with Lyrical Joe, which got him more attention from the media space.
The awards night of the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards is scheduled to come off on Saturday, June 1, 2024. The nominees’ announcement came with a number of controversies, as usual. This includes the omission of a few notable nominee candidates.
It is obvious that Amerado is not the only displeased artiste after the nominations. Industry folks have started working on the list, and the concerns of familiarity and favoritism of factions are still being discussed on social media.
Hopefully, these petty mistakes are being sorted out and avoided in the subsequent years. We do not need negative publicity when there can be positive ones. Also, Amerado can test the defense of the award scheme to rectify this embarrassing mistake.
