Zimbabwean Business Mogul Wicknell Chivayo Acquires Stunning R160 Million Clifton Mansion, Joining Africa’s Elite Property Owners

Zimbabwean businessman and renewable energy investor Wicknell Chivayo has once again captured continental attention after unveiling his latest luxury acquisition, a breathtaking R160 million (approximately $8.7 million) mansion in the prestigious coastal suburb of Clifton, Cape Town.

The remarkable purchase marks one of the most expensive cross-border residential property investments by a Zimbabwean entrepreneur in recent years and further cements Chivayo’s growing reputation as one of Africa’s most ambitious businessmen with an expanding portfolio that stretches beyond national borders.

Designed by internationally acclaimed South African architectural firm SAOTA, the four-level luxury residence sits on the exclusive Clifton mountainside overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The home offers uninterrupted panoramic views of Table Bay and Robben Island, placing Chivayo among an elite circle of high-net-worth individuals who call one of South Africa’s most expensive neighborhoods home.

Announcing the milestone on social media, Chivayo expressed gratitude to God while describing the purchase as a worthwhile investment.

“We were welcomed to our new home in Clifton, Cape Town last weekend. A cool R160 million well spent, including everything done and delivered with utmost class and attention to detail. God is the greatest,” he wrote.

According to Chivayo, the R160 million price tag covers not only the acquisition of the property but also every aspect of its luxurious interior finishing and fittings.

The mansion is a masterpiece of contemporary architecture, featuring four spacious bedrooms, elegant French Oak flooring throughout, bespoke Murba wood detailing, a designer Eurocasa kitchen, a private penthouse-inspired master suite, a fully equipped gym, entertainment areas, a home theatre, a dedicated wine cellar and a Kone elevator connecting all four floors.

Its interior was completed by renowned designer Stephen Pelerade and his team at Pelerade Design House, who transformed the residence into one of Clifton’s most luxurious private homes.

Despite celebrating the achievement, Chivayo also reflected on a personal loss, remembering the late Ashleigh in an emotional tribute.

“As we celebrate this beautiful new home, we continue to miss and pray that our beloved Ashleigh’s beautiful soul continues to rest in eternal peace,” he shared.

The acquisition places Chivayo in one of Africa’s most exclusive residential enclaves, where internationally celebrated DJ and Grammy-winning producer Black Coffee and prominent South African businessman Solly “MySol” Madibela are among the notable residents.

Widely regarded as South Africa’s most prestigious coastal address, Clifton has become synonymous with luxury, privacy and exceptional real estate values. Its prime Atlantic-facing location, breathtaking scenery and world-class security continue to attract Africa’s wealthiest entrepreneurs, executives and celebrities.

The Cape Town mansion is the latest addition to Chivayo’s rapidly expanding property empire. It follows reports of his acquisition of a R129 million mansion in Harare in 2024, highlighting his growing appetite for landmark real estate investments across Southern Africa.

Beyond property, Chivayo has continued to expand his influence in infrastructure and renewable energy. Earlier this year, the Kingdom of Eswatini announced a R3 billion investment commitment by the businessman following discussions with King Mswati III. The project, which focuses on developing a 300-megawatt solar power plant on 120 hectares of land, further reinforces Chivayo’s growing footprint in Africa’s clean energy sector.

Founder and Managing Director of Intratrek Zimbabwe, Chivayo has built his business around engineering, procurement, construction and renewable energy projects. His business success has been matched by high-profile philanthropy, having distributed millions of dollars’ worth of vehicles, financial gifts and support to musicians, media personalities, churches and charitable institutions across Zimbabwe.

His philanthropic efforts earned recognition from Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who publicly described him as a philanthropist.

Chivayo has openly stated that his long-term ambition is to become a dollar billionaire. Judging by his growing investments in luxury real estate, infrastructure and renewable energy across multiple African countries, the entrepreneur appears to be steadily positioning himself toward that goal.

With landmark properties now spanning Zimbabwe and South Africa, alongside major infrastructure investments in Eswatini, Wicknell Chivayo continues to build a business empire that reflects both continental ambition and global aspirations, making him one of Africa’s most closely watched entrepreneurs.
