Elkanah Frederick Ayittey Calls for Urgent Partnership to Tackle Health Worker Unemployment in Ghana
Aspiring Independent Candidate hopeful for the Assin North Constituency, Elkanah Frederick Ayittey, has made a passionate appeal to the Government of Ghana and key stakeholders in the health sector to urgently establish strategic partnerships with private hospitals to address the increasing unemployment among trained health professionals in the country.
In a statement addressed to the President of the Republic, the Minister for Health, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), and other major stakeholders, Elkanah Frederick Ayittey expressed deep concern over the growing number of qualified healthcare workers who have remained unemployed since 2021.
According to him, thousands of trained nurses, midwives, laboratory professionals, allied health personnel, and other healthcare graduates continue to stay at home despite dedicating years of sacrifice and training to serve the nation.
“It is heartbreaking to see trained professionals losing hope while many communities still struggle with inadequate healthcare delivery and shortage of personnel,” he stated.
Elkanah Frederick Ayittey stressed that government alone cannot shoulder the burden of healthcare employment and emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors to improve healthcare delivery and create employment opportunities.
He noted that private hospitals and healthcare institutions already play a vital role in Ghana’s healthcare system and should be fully integrated into national development strategies.

As part of his proposal, he called on the Ministry of Health and relevant authorities to engage private healthcare facilities under a structured agreement that would allow unemployed health workers to be posted to these institutions with mutually beneficial support systems.
According to him, such an initiative would not only reduce unemployment among healthcare professionals but also improve healthcare accessibility, strengthen the country’s health system, and restore hope to thousands of young professionals whose dreams are gradually fading.
“The future of Ghana’s healthcare system depends on bold decisions, inclusive policies, and partnerships that place national interest above all else,” he emphasized.
He further urged leaders and stakeholders not to allow trained health workers to remain idle while healthcare needs continue to rise across many communities in the country.
“This is more than employment; this is about preserving dignity, protecting the future of healthcare, and building a stronger Ghana together,” he added.
Elkanah Frederick Ayittey continues to advocate for youth empowerment, employment opportunities, and practical policy solutions aimed at improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians and strengthening national development.
