Iran Submits Formal Response to U.S. Peace Proposal as Tensions and Diplomacy Intersect

Iran has officially delivered its response to a peace proposal put forward by the United States, according to state media reports from the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), marking a significant development in ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region.

Citing a source familiar with the discussions, IRNA reported that talks between the Trump administration and Tehran are currently centred on efforts to halt hostilities, suggesting that both sides are still engaged in preliminary negotiations over broader regional stability.

According to multiple reports, the U.S. administration recently presented a one-page memorandum to Iranian officials outlining a proposed framework for future dialogue. The document is said to focus primarily on Iran’s nuclear program, with the intention of establishing conditions for continued negotiations.

Sources familiar with the proposal indicated that Washington’s plan includes a temporary pause on Iran’s uranium enrichment activities. In exchange, the United States would reportedly consider easing sanctions and releasing billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets. The proposal is also said to include discussions on reducing restrictions affecting maritime activity in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

However, the diplomatic exchange has been accompanied by sharp political rhetoric on both sides.  Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s national security committee, dismissed the reported U.S. terms as unrealistic, describing them as a “wish list.” He warned that pressure tactics would not yield concessions from Tehran, adding that Iran remains prepared for any escalation. In remarks shared on social media platform X, Rezaei emphasized that Iran would respond strongly to any perceived aggression or hostile actions.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also reinforced Tehran’s stance in comments released over the weekend, following reports that Iran had submitted its official response to the U.S. proposal. While acknowledging the importance of dialogue, Pezeshkian stressed that negotiations should not be interpreted as surrender. He reiterated that Iran’s position is rooted in safeguarding national sovereignty and protecting its strategic interests.

As diplomatic exchanges continue, the international community is closely monitoring the situation, with key issues such as nuclear enrichment, sanctions relief, and regional maritime security remaining central to the discussions between the two nations.
