Ghanaian international reggae star Rocky Dawuni has raised concerns about the growing influence of artificial intelligence in the creative space, warning that it is gradually eroding the authenticity and value of true artistry. Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey on the popular show “What Dey Happen?” on Zed FM, the multiple Grammy-nominated musician did not hold back in sharing his thoughts on the evolving music landscape.
According to Dawuni, while technology has always played a significant role in shaping music production and distribution, the rise of AI-generated content presents a different kind of challenge. He noted that an increasing number of individuals now depend on AI tools to write songs, yet still claim full authorship of such works. This trend, he believes, undermines the essence of creativity and the hard work traditionally associated with songwriting.
The celebrated artist emphasized that music, at its core, is a reflection of human experience — emotions, struggles, culture, and identity. He argued that when artists rely heavily on artificial intelligence to create, they risk stripping their work of originality and soul. “Art should come from a real place,” Dawuni implied, urging creatives to remain grounded in their personal stories and lived experiences.
