Abdulsamad Rabiu Climbs Africa’s Rich List With $15.9 Billion Fortune

Abdulsamad Rabiu is steadily closing in on the position of Africa’s second richest man after recording another massive rise in his fortune this year.

According to the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the Nigerian industrialist’s net worth has climbed to an impressive $15.9 billion, representing a year-to-date increase of $5.78 billion. The remarkable growth makes him currently the best-performing billionaire in Africa in 2026.

Rabiu’s rapid rise continues to reshape the ranking of Africa’s wealthiest individuals. Earlier this month, South African business mogul Nathie Kirsh had overtaken him to become Africa’s third richest person after recording strong gains in his investments. However, Rabiu’s latest surge has once again pushed him ahead, reclaiming the third position on the continent’s rich list.

Despite Rabiu’s impressive momentum, Aliko Dangote remains firmly seated as Africa’s richest man. Dangote currently boasts a staggering net worth of $33.6 billion, with a year-to-date gain of $3.67 billion. His wealth, driven largely by his industrial empire and refinery operations, places him comfortably ahead of every other billionaire on the continent.

Attention is now shifting toward Africa’s second richest individual, South African luxury goods magnate Johann Rupert. Rupert currently holds a net worth of $18 billion but has suffered a decline of $1.42 billion since the start of the year. With Rabiu now less than $3 billion behind him, analysts say the Nigerian billionaire could soon challenge for the second spot if his upward trajectory continues.

Rabiu’s rise in 2026 has been one of the most remarkable wealth stories on the continent.

At the beginning of the year, he entered Africa’s top five richest individuals alongside Dangote, becoming one of only two Black billionaires on the list. In January, his fortune stood at $10.4 billion, placing him fifth in Africa and ranking him the 339th richest person globally.

By February, his net worth had increased to $11.3 billion, fueled by strong performances across his business empire. At the time, his gains outpaced several other African billionaires, including Egypt’s Nassef Sawiris and Naguib Sawiris.

The momentum intensified in March when Rabiu’s wealth surged to $14.6 billion, elevating him to the position of the 197th richest person in the world. Although he briefly slipped to fourth place in Africa after Nathie Kirsh’s major business divestment, the latest Bloomberg update now places him back in third position.

Currently ranked as the 187th richest person globally, Rabiu’s $15.9 billion fortune has now overtaken Kirsh’s estimated $15.2 billion wealth, reinforcing his growing influence among Africa’s billionaire elite.

With billions added to his fortune in just a few months, Abdulsamad Rabiu’s rapid ascent is becoming one of the biggest financial success stories on the African continent, positioning him as a strong contender for even greater heights in the global billionaire rankings.
