Trump’s Iran Claim Sparks Wave of Denials from Former Presidents’ Camps
WASHINGTON, Donald Trump is facing mounting scrutiny after claiming he had a conversation with a former U.S. president who allegedly supported his stance on bombing Iran, an assertion now contradicted by multiple sources close to past leaders.
Speaking on Monday, Trump told reporters that a former president privately expressed regret over not taking similar military action against Iran. According to Trump, the unnamed predecessor told him, “I wish I did it. I wish I did.” He repeated the claim during both a luncheon with Kennedy Center board members and later in remarks from the Oval Office, suggesting the conversation reflected admiration for his approach.
However, aides representing all four living former U.S. presidents have pushed back strongly against the claim, casting doubt on its credibility.
A representative for George W. Bush stated plainly that there has been no communication between Bush and Trump, noting, “they haven’t been in touch.” Similarly, an aide to Bill Clinton dismissed the assertion, confirming that Clinton was not the individual Trump referenced.
From the camp of Barack Obama, an aide clarified that there have been “no recent conversations” between Obama and Trump. Meanwhile, a source familiar with the matter also ruled out Joe Biden as the alleged speaker.
Despite the growing chorus of denials, Trump has declined to identify the former president in question. When pressed by reporters, he ruled out Bush and refused to confirm whether it was Clinton, stating, “I don’t want to say… I don’t want to get him into trouble.”
The White House has yet to issue an official response addressing the conflicting accounts.

Trump’s remarks come amid heightened global tensions surrounding Iran, making the claim particularly significant. Yet with no confirmation, and direct contradictions from all possible sources, the statement has fueled debate over its accuracy and intent.
As questions linger, the episode underscores the ongoing friction between Trump and the broader U.S. political establishment, especially as narratives around foreign policy decisions continue to evolve.
